MIDDLEEAST TYCOON NEWS DESK: For the fifth time, the capital of Georgia will have a naval vessel named after it by the U.S. Navy. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro announced that a new nuclear attack submarine will be designated USS Atlanta. The timeline for construction, service entry, and cost remains unclear. In August, a $1.3 billion contract was awarded to General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut, for material procurement for this and other upcoming submarines. This new vessel follows a tradition of naming Virginia-class submarines after cities, with the USS Atlanta being the fifth ship to honor Georgia’s largest city. Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms will sponsor the submarine.
