MIDDLEEAST TYCOON NEWS DESK:Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has dismissed Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and named Foreign Minister Israel Katz as his successor, sparking widespread protests nationwide, according to Al Jazeera.
In a Tuesday statement, Netanyahu cited a “loss of confidence” in Gallant over his handling of conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. He explained that trust had “eroded” over recent months, and their differences had “become known in an unusual manner” that benefited Israel’s enemies.
Meanwhile, Katz took to X, pledging to “achieve the goals of the war” and prioritize the return of hostages from Gaza as his top mission.
Following the announcement, thousands gathered in Tel Aviv, blocking highways and lighting bonfires, while others protested outside Netanyahu’s residence in Jerusalem.
Long-standing disagreements between Netanyahu and Gallant highlighted a rift between the government and military leadership. Gallant advocated for a ceasefire to secure the release of hostages, while Netanyahu insisted on dismantling Hamas as a military force.
