Biden Faces Backlash for Calling Trump Supporters ‘Garbage’

Date:

MIDDLEEAST TYCOON NEWS DESK: President Joe Biden is facing backlash after referring to supporters of former President Trump as “garbage” during a virtual speech on Oct. 29. The remarks were made during a Zoom call with Voto Latino, a nonprofit focused on registering Latino voters. Biden’s comment came in response to a joke made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a recent Trump rally, where he described Puerto Rico in derogatory terms.

Biden stated, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters,” condemning Trump’s “demonization of Latinos” as “unconscionable” and “un-American.” The White House quickly attempted to clarify the statement, with spokesman Andrew Bates explaining that Biden’s reference to “garbage” pertained to the hateful rhetoric from the rally, not the supporters themselves.

Despite this clarification, Biden’s remarks drew swift condemnation from Trump’s camp. Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt accused Biden of hating Trump and his supporters, while Sen. JD Vance described the comment as “disgusting.” Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro also criticized Biden, stating he would never insult voters, regardless of their political choices.

Elon Musk, now a prominent figure supporting Trump, commented on X, highlighting Biden’s characterization of half the nation as “garbage.” The comments were also met with outrage at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, where Sen. Marco Rubio demanded an apology, asserting that Trump supporters are “patriots who love America.”

The incident echoed Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” remark in 2016, which contributed to her electoral loss, raising concerns about the potential impact of Biden’s words on his campaign.
