MIDDLEEAST TYCOON NEWS DESK:Hezbollah’s Shura Council has appointed 71-year-old Sheikh Naim Qassem as the new Secretary-General of the group, reaffirming its commitment to its principles and goals. The council expressed its faith in Qassem’s leadership in a statement, emphasizing their dedication to the “blessed banner” of resistance and pledging to honor the fallen victims and fighters of the Islamic resistance.
Sheikh Qassem has been a prominent figure in Hezbollah, serving as deputy secretary general since 1991. He was appointed under the late Abbas al-Musawi, who was killed in an Israeli helicopter strike in 1992, and continued in his role when Hassan Nasrallah became leader.
Qassem’s political involvement began with the Lebanese Amal Movement in 1974, which he left in 1979 following Iran’s Islamic Revolution. He participated in the formation of Hezbollah in 1982 and has been a leading spokesman for the organization, known for engaging with international media. He was born in 1953 in Beirut and has roots in Kfar Fila, Nabatieh province.
